Four-Year-Old Child Suspended From Tree As Punishment For Incomplete Homework In Chhattisgarh School

A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district, where two female teachers at Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir allegedly subjected a four-year-old student to severe punishment for incomplete homework. The child was reportedly stripped, bound with rope, and suspended from a tree within the school grounds in Narayanpur village.

The distressing event came to light after footage captured by a bystander from a neighboring rooftop went viral on social media platforms. The video clearly shows the child hanging helplessly while teachers Kajal Sahu and Anuradha Dewangan stand nearby, prompting immediate action from educational authorities.

Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir, an educational institution serving students from nursery through eighth grade, was operating as usual that Monday. During a routine homework check in the nursery class, teacher Kajal Sahu discovered one student had not completed his assigned work. Reports indicate she responded by expelling the child from class before administering the shocking punishment that has left the village community stunned.

The teacher allegedly secured the four-year-old to a tree using his shirt and rope, leaving him suspended and distressed for an extended period. Despite the child's tears, screams, and pleas to be released, his requests were reportedly ignored. Santosh Kumar Sahu, a relative of the victim, expressed profound concern over the school's handling of the situation, citing extreme negligence and demanding strict accountability for those responsible.

Following the video's circulation, Block Education Officer DS Lakra promptly visited the school to conduct an on-site investigation. He confirmed that findings would be forwarded to senior officials for appropriate action. District Education Officer Ajay Mishra acknowledged awareness of the incident.

In response to growing concern, education department officials dispatched cluster in-charge Manoj Yadav to gather additional information. Yadav verified that the teachers' actions were "completely wrong" and confirmed submission of a comprehensive report to district authorities. The school administration has acknowledged responsibility, with an administrator publicly apologizing for what they termed a "serious lapse." One of the accused teachers admitted to NDTV: "Yes, I made a mistake... This is the first time. I didn't do it intentionally."

Though the child reportedly suffered no physical harm, the incident has generated significant anger among parents, child welfare advocates, and community members. Many are calling for substantial consequences not only for the teachers involved but also for the institution that allowed such treatment on its premises.

"Ramanujnagar BEO DS Lakra and the BRC have been dispatched to investigate. Appropriate measures will follow once we receive their complete report," a district official stated.
