Sagar Sorti's mobile phone assisted police in identifying him after his body was discovered.
Mumbai:
A former Mumbai Under-16 footballer, Sagar Sorti, was discovered hanging from a tree in Maharashtra's Palghar district last week. Police are investigating the incident as a possible suicide case.
On November 15, Sorti informed his family he was traveling to Pune to play football. When family members couldn't contact him the following day, concern grew. Tragically, on November 18, police located his body suspended by a rope from a tree in Palghar's Mendhavan Khind forest area.
Officials reported that Sorti's mobile phone, found with his body, was crucial in establishing his identity.
Family members revealed that Sorti had been experiencing mental health challenges for approximately two years. They noted his refusal to have new clothes made for his younger brother's upcoming wedding ceremony planned for later this month.
Authorities at Kasa police station have registered the case as an accidental death (ADR).
The body has been transferred to Mumbai's JJ Hospital for post-mortem examination. Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh stated that the actual cause of death will be determined once the medical report is complete.
"Further action will be taken based on the report findings," he added.
