Tamil Actor Vijay Resumes Public Outreach with Controlled Indoor Meeting Following Karur Tragedy

Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to conduct a public outreach event on Sunday, marking his first such gathering since the tragic stampede at his Karur rally on September 27 that claimed 41 lives.

The upcoming indoor meeting will take place at a private educational institution in Kanchipuram district. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) officials have specified that attendance will be strictly limited to 2,000 participants from Kanchipuram district, with entry controlled through QR-code passes.

In preparation for the event, TVK district representatives have requested police protection by submitting a formal petition to the Kanchipuram District Superintendent of Police office.

TVK sources revealed to NDTV that training sessions for the party's security personnel have been ongoing at the same private college facility for several days, conducted with assistance from former police officials. "Vijay will interact with party members and local residents, and is expected to address various urgent matters. All necessary arrangements have been completed," the sources confirmed.

Previously, the TVK had sought permission to organize a large-scale rally in Salem on December 4, but authorities denied their request, citing a conflicting local event scheduled for the same date. Officials asked the party to resubmit their application with adjusted attendance estimates and an alternative date.

With state elections approaching in the coming months, TVK is eager to accelerate Vijay's public engagement initiatives. Rather than waiting for standard operating procedures and rally approvals, the party has pivoted to indoor meetings as a strategic alternative to resume Vijay's public interactions, which had been suspended following the Karur incident.
