New Delhi:

Police arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly killing his brother-in-law during an angry confrontation and subsequently disposing of the corpse in a drainage system in Delhi's Swaroop Nagar district, authorities announced Saturday.

The case involves the murder of 26-year-old Yogender from Nathupura, whose remains were discovered earlier this month. According to police officials, the investigation breakthrough resulted from comprehensive CCTV footage analysis, technical surveillance operations, and intelligence gathered from the field.

Police reports indicate that a missing person report was initially filed on November 6. Six days later, on November 12, authorities recovered an unidentified body from a drainage channel in the IP Colony area.

The deceased was subsequently identified as the previously reported missing individual, with a post-mortem examination on November 17 revealing death from homicidal injuries. Following this confirmation, authorities formally registered a criminal case.

Due to the challenging nature of the investigation, authorities established two specialized investigative teams - one dedicated to analyzing surveillance footage and another focused on conducting field investigations. CCTV recordings revealed movements of a white automobile with partially visible registration numbers, which family members of the victim later recognized as belonging to his brother-in-law, Anis Pal, according to police statements.

Technical monitoring additionally revealed that Anis had communicated with the victim shortly before his disappearance. Police reported that persistent interrogation resulted in Anis confessing to the crime, leading to his arrest on November 18.

Investigators recovered a blood-stained knife, identified as the murder weapon, from the suspect's vehicle, along with blood-stained car upholstery, clothing worn by the accused during the incident, and surveillance footage showing the disposal of the body and subsequent cleaning of the vehicle.

According to investigators, the accused and victim were together in the car on the evening of November 5 when a heated argument erupted. In a burst of anger, Anis allegedly stabbed Yogender with a knife he kept in his vehicle.

He then allegedly removed the victim's clothing and discarded the body in a drainage canal near IP Colony.

The court has ordered the accused to remain in police custody for two additional days to facilitate further investigation, including forensic examination of the seized vehicle and evidence. Authorities continue working to verify additional information and determine if others were involved in the crime.
