PM Modi Welcomed by Indian Diaspora in South Africa Ahead of G20 Summit

Deeply Touched: PM Modi On His Welcome By Indians In South Africa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday to participate in the G20 Leaders' Summit. He expressed his appreciation for the warm reception from the Indian community, noting that India's rich cultural diversity was prominently displayed in the African nation.

Members of the Indian diaspora presented folk dances from 11 Indian states during a brief cultural program titled 'Rhythms of a United India'.

PM Modi commended the Indian community for maintaining their cultural connections to their homeland.

"The cultural connection between India and South Africa is truly heartwarming and enduring. In Johannesburg, young performers sang the Ganapati Prarthana, Shanti Mantra and various divine prayers with great devotion. Such moments reinforce the lasting bonds between our people," he shared on X.

The Indian diaspora in South Africa has expressed gratitude for the Indian Government's decision to extend OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) facility to 7th Generation Persons of Indian Origin in South Africa, previously available only to the 4th generation. This policy strengthens the historical connections between the nations.

PM Modi stated he was "deeply touched" by the warm welcome from the Indian community in Johannesburg.

"This affection demonstrates the enduring relationship between India and South Africa. These ties, established through history and reinforced by shared values, continue to strengthen over time," he remarked.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Pretoria to attend the 20th G20 Leaders' Summit and received a warm welcome at the airport.

The G20 Leaders' Summit is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on November 22-23. During the summit, PM Modi is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders present in Johannesburg.

"Landed in Johannesburg for the G20 Summit related engagements. Look forward to productive discussions with world leaders on key global issues. Our focus will be on strengthening cooperation, advancing development priorities and ensuring a better future for all," PM Modi posted on X after his arrival.
