Bhopal:

Following an incident where masked individuals wielding swords, rods, and sticks stormed into a cafe in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, authorities apprehended five suspects and subsequently paraded them through public streets.

The violent episode, which occurred late at night and was documented by security cameras, depicted numerous masked assailants armed with various weapons entering the Magic Spot Cafe located in Misrod. Within a span of less than two minutes, the group destroyed the counter, shattered glass panels, damaged furniture, wrecked display units, and vandalized equipment before departing.

A young couple present in the establishment managed to escape just before the attackers made their entrance.

Law enforcement from Misrod led the arrested individuals through the main market area in a procession, beginning at the very cafe they had vandalized.

Police officials stated that this public display was intended to convey a strong message that acts of terrorism and violence would not be permitted in the capital city.

Surveillance footage revealed the perpetrators moving in a coordinated manner, executing the attack, and exiting without attempting to steal anything of value.

Authorities indicated that initial investigations eliminate theft as a motive. "The attackers made no attempt to take anything. They arrived solely to vandalize the cafe. The entire incident lasted under two minutes," explained DCP Zone-2 Vivek Singh in a statement to NDTV. Investigators believe the attack stemmed from a personal rivalry between student factions from a local private college.

The catalyst appears to have been a previous altercation on November 16 in Katara Hills, where an individual named Yogi was reportedly assaulted by Abhishek Rajput and associates. Abhishek is believed to be connected to one of the cafe's partners. This earlier dispute, which had already been documented in a police report, seemingly escalated into Tuesday night's retaliatory action.

Cafe proprietor Saksham Giri filed a First Information Report naming five individuals, including Yogi, Nikhil, and Abhishek, along with several unidentified persons. Police have arrested two individuals mentioned in the complaint and detained three others for questioning.

The owner explained that he distributed the security camera footage widely across various groups, which aided in identifying several attackers. "I have no personal acquaintance with any of the assailants, nor do I harbor any enmity towards anyone," Saksham informed NDTV.

"The attack resulted in damages amounting to nearly two and a half to three lakh rupees to my establishment," he further stated.

Given the gravity of the offense, combined teams from Misrod, Baghsewania, and Katara Hills police stations collaborated on the investigation. They analyzed security footage from surrounding areas, mapped potential escape routes, and examined previous conflicts among the involved parties.

Sources confirmed that authorities are also interrogating the three partners of Magic Spot Cafe, as one partner reportedly has connections to an individual involved in the earlier confrontation. Officials indicate they are examining all possible motives – including rivalry, retaliation, and potential internal disputes.

The case has been registered at Misrod police station, with multiple teams working to locate the remaining suspects.
