Three individuals lost their lives in a tragic collision between a pick-up van and a speeding train in Tripura's Dhalai district on Thursday, according to police reports.

The fatal accident occurred when the vehicle carrying three occupants attempted to cross railway tracks near SK Para station and collided with the oncoming train, as stated by a senior police officer.

"A pick-up van conducting contract work for ONGC collided with a Silchar-bound train while crossing the railway tracks near SK Para station within the Manu police station jurisdiction. Three individuals, including the driver, died instantly at the scene," explained Rajdeep Deb, spokesperson for the state police.

The train, which had departed from Agartala, remained on the tracks following the collision, while the impact caused the pick-up van to veer off the tracks and plunge into the adjacent jungle area.

"All deceased bodies were transported to the Manu Health facility for post-mortem examinations. An investigation into the incident is currently in progress," said Chitta Debbarma, officer-in-charge (OC) at the Manu GRP police station.
