A tragic incident in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh has resulted in the death of a woman who was subjected to a horrific acid attack by her husband, who subsequently pushed her off a roof on November 15. The victim, identified as Mamta, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night at PGI Chandigarh hospital, according to police reports.
The brutal attack took place in the Sain Mohalla neighborhood of Mandi town, where the accused, Nand Lal, assaulted his wife with acid before forcefully pushing her from the roof of their residence, as stated in an official police statement released on Thursday.
Following the attack, concerned neighbors rushed Mamta to the local hospital in Mandi, from where medical professionals determined her injuries required specialized care, leading to her transfer to PGI Chandigarh.
Despite medical efforts, Mamta did not survive her injuries and passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment at the facility.
Law enforcement officials are now proceeding with legal actions as the investigation continues, according to the police statement.
Initially, authorities had registered an attempted murder case against Nand Lal, who remains in judicial custody. Following Mamta's death, police have indicated that charges will be elevated to murder.
Investigators revealed that Nand Lal had a history of physically abusing Mamta, who had been suffering from illness for some time. Reports suggest that her family members were deliberately kept away from her.
Police further disclosed that prior to the fatal attack, Mamta had apparently shared serious allegations against her husband through a social media platform.
