Tragic Negligence: Newborn Dies After Corridor Delivery in Karnataka Government Hospital

A tragic case of alleged medical negligence at Karnataka's Haveri Women and Children's Hospital resulted in a newborn's death after a woman in labor was denied a bed and delivered in a hospital corridor. The incident has sparked political debate between BJP and Congress over healthcare standards in government facilities, with family members claiming staff were distracted by mobile phones instead of providing timely care to the 30-year-old mother.

Newborn Dies After Delivery In Karnataka Hospital Corridor

A newborn tragically lost their life at the government-operated Haveri Women and Children's hospital in Karnataka, with allegations pointing to staff negligence, according to police statements released Wednesday.

The Karnataka BJP has publicly criticized the Congress-led administration over this apparent "negligence" case.

On Tuesday, this heartbreaking incident occurred at the district hospital where a woman experiencing labor pains was reportedly denied a bed and forced to sit on the floor.

While attempting to reach the restroom, the woman delivered her baby in the hospital corridor, resulting in the infant's immediate death.

Family members stated that the pregnant woman, despite being in active labor, was made to sit on the floor for approximately an hour as hospital personnel failed to provide appropriate accommodations.

The patient, identified as 30-year-old Rupa Girish Karabannavar from Kakol village in Ranebennur taluk, arrived at the medical facility around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Relatives claim they received no proper guidance when asking staff for restroom directions. Subsequently, the woman unexpectedly went into labor and delivered in the corridor leading to the toilet facilities.

Reports indicate the newborn suffered injuries during this incident and died immediately.

The woman's family has accused medical staff of severe negligence, alleging they were distracted by their mobile phones rather than providing essential timely care.

Emotional family members expressed their distress, emphasizing that no family should ever endure such a traumatic experience.

Opposition Leader R. Ashoka criticized the Congress-led government on Wednesday regarding the incident.

"Mr. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, what is happening in your department, sir? During our previous BJP government, we had planned to establish help desks in all government hospitals to guide poor patients seeking treatment," he remarked.

Ashoka further criticized the Siddaramaiah administration, stating, "The Congress-led government increased healthcare service charges, supplied poor-quality medicines leading to the deaths of pregnant and postpartum women, and shut down Jan Aushadhi stores in government hospital premises."

He urged the state government to prioritize improvements in public healthcare facilities.
