Anmol Bishnoi, brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on Wednesday after being deported from the United States.
The NIA presented Anmol before a Delhi court, revealing that his gang maintains connections with terrorist organizations such as Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). According to the agency, their objective is to spread fear and instability throughout India.
During court proceedings, the NIA described Anmol as a participant in a criminal-terror network operating both domestically and internationally. His alleged activities included fundraising for terrorist operations, youth recruitment, planning targeted assassinations of prominent individuals, and using social media to publicize these violent acts. The court granted the agency 11 days of custody for further investigation.
Hailing from Fazilka in Punjab, Anmol rose to national prominence following his involvement in the 2022 murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. He continued making headlines with his alleged role in high-profile cases, including the assassination of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique—where authorities identified him as the primary conspirator—and the shooting incident outside actor Salman Khan's residence.
In October last year, the NIA added Anmol to their most-wanted list and announced a Rs 10 lakh reward for information leading to his capture.
The NIA filed chargesheets against Anmol in two separate cases registered in 2022. Reports indicate he fled India using fraudulent passport documentation the following year.
With at least 18 cases registered against him, Anmol allegedly provided weapons and logistical support to the assailants who killed popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala near his village Moosa in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, 2022. Fellow Bishnoi gang member Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the murder, later stating it was retribution for Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera's killing.
On April 14, 2024, two men—Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal—fired shots outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra area. Anmol subsequently claimed responsibility for this attack. According to the chargesheet, planning for this incident had been ongoing since August 2023.
The investigation revealed that Bishnoi delivered a nine-minute motivational speech to the shooters before the incident, telling them: "Lord Ram has blessed us. We will handle him (Salman Khan). There is no problem, as long as it is in my control, I don't have any problem."
He reportedly added, "Now it is do or die, either life or death. It is written by God. Either the bullets will be fired in the morning or we will sit at home. It is in your hands what to do and what not to do... If you work, then history will be created. You will fill the newspapers."
A Mumbai court issued a non-bailable warrant against Anmol in July.
Just three months later, former Maharashtra minister and three-time MLA Baba Siddique was fatally shot on October 12 outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Bandra. The chargesheet identified Anmol as the "plotter" who communicated with the shooters and provided instructions for executing the assassination.
Authorities apprehended Bishnoi in Sacramento, California, in November 2024 for entering the United States using fraudulent documentation. His arrest came shortly after a Maharashtra court issued a non-bailable warrant and Interpol released a Red Corner Notice against him.
In an exclusive NDTV interview on Tuesday, Zeeshan Siddique revealed he had been persistently communicating with US authorities regarding Bishnoi's extradition for months, informing them that the gangster was wanted in connection with his father's murder.
Bishnoi was ultimately deported on Tuesday and arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.
