Rachna Goldar, a local resident in her fifties, unearthed the precious stones with a combined weight of 2.53 carats while digging in her leased mining plot. According to diamond expert Anupam Singh, six of the diamonds are of high quality.
"The largest diamond weighs 0.79 carat, while two stones are off-colour," Singh explained. Following protocol, Goldar has deposited the diamonds at the district diamond office, where they will be auctioned, potentially fetching several lakh rupees.
The mother of three adult children had acquired a mining lease in the Hazara Mudda area. She expressed optimism that the proceeds from the auction would significantly improve her financial situation.
In Panna district, an eight-metre mining plot is leased for just Rs 200 per year. Diamond auctions occur quarterly, attracting traders from across India.
As per local mining regulations, the final auction proceeds are subject to a 12 percent government deduction, comprising 11 percent royalty and 1 percent TDS. The remaining amount is given to the discoverer, according to those engaged in the mining industry.
