New Delhi:
Further information has emerged about the operations of the white collar terror cell, more than a week after the Jaish-e-Mohammed-affiliated module in Faridabad, Haryana executed a suicide car bombing near Delhi's Red Fort.
According to sources who spoke with NDTV, all key suspects including suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi had specific responsibilities within the organization. Despite their varied tasks ranging from logistics to explosive manufacturing, all members apparently understood their collective objective of carrying out terrorist attacks.
Below is an examination of several suspects and their specific roles:
Umar-bin-Khattab alias Hanjulla
A Pakistan-based operative who maintained communication with Maulvi Irfan Ahmed from Jammu and Kashmir.
Maulvi Irfan Ahmed
Working as a maulvi at a mosque in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, his responsibility involved radicalizing educated youth and connecting them with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) to establish the white collar terror network. Ahmed maintained direct connections with multiple JeM terrorists. He recruited doctors and formed the 'invisible' white collar terror module that quickly became operational. Ahmed identified potential in Muzamil Shakeel and successfully recruited him.
Muzamil Shakeel
A physician at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Shakeel connected with similarly minded doctors at the institution and recruited them – Muzaffar Ahmad, Adeel Ahmad Rather, and Shaheen Saeed. Saeed subsequently involved her brother Parvez Ansari, also a doctor, in the terrorist conspiracy. Shakeel is considered the most significant suspect as he was the maulvi's first recruit who subsequently expanded the terror network. Besides radicalizing potential students at Al-Falah, he handled explosives transportation.
Shaheen Saeed
A resident of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, she taught at Al Falah University. Her primary responsibilities included fundraising for the white collar module and connecting underprivileged women and girls with JeM's women's division, Jamaat-ul-Muminat. Saeed provided approximately Rs 20 lakh to fund the Faridabad module and maintained continuous fundraising activities.
Amir Rashid Ali
A Jammu and Kashmir resident who assisted the suicide bomber in planning and executing the November 10 attack near Delhi's Red Fort. He participated in preparing the explosives that caused 13 deaths. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Ali in Delhi. He arranged the i20 vehicle used by the suicide bomber.
Adeel Ahmad Rather
His arrest by Jammu and Kashmir Police exposed the entire network. Information he provided led to the arrests of two other doctors, Muzamil Shakeel and Shaheen Saeed. Subsequently, police recovered 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad. Adeel Ahmad's primary function was procuring weapons for the terror cell.
Umar Un Nabi
The suicide bomber who drove an i20 throughout Delhi for several hours before detonating it in a crowded area. He possessed knowledge about chemicals following training in using ammonium nitrate for explosive production. A video recorded before his suicide attack demonstrates his extreme radicalization.
Jasir Bilal Wani Alias Danish
He served as a technician for the terror cell. Trained in bomb-making and recruited by the suicide bomber himself, Jasir Bilal was assigned to research methods of attaching explosives to drones. He planned to develop rockets for the terror group.
Recent Development
Muzamil Shakeel developed a friendship with a mobile phone store owner. Approximately one month ago, he entrusted the shopkeeper with two large machines – a large stapler-like device and a grinding machine – for safekeeping. He informed the shopkeeper he was traveling to his village for his sister's wedding and requested that he look after his belongings.
Police are currently interrogating the shopkeeper. Two years earlier, the shopkeeper's child had suffered burn injuries. When he took his child to Al-Falah for treatment, he became acquainted with Muzamil Shakeel.
