Indore:
A 25-year-old African woman who entered India on a student visa was apprehended by the Madhya Pradesh police's Narcotics wing in Indore for allegedly possessing cocaine valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh, as confirmed by an official on Wednesday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Maheshchand Jain stated that the suspect, identified only as Linda, was detained on Tuesday in the city's Residency area following intelligence received from an informant.
Officials confirmed she had traveled to Indore from Mumbai by bus.
Authorities recovered more than 30 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of around Rs 15 lakh in the illegal drug market, according to the senior police official.
Jain revealed that the woman is a citizen of the West African nation Cote d'Ivoire (formerly known as Ivory Coast) and had been residing in Mumbai's Nalasopara area since arriving in India on a student visa earlier this year.
He further explained, "Linda traveled from Mumbai to Indore to deliver a cocaine shipment to someone. We suspect this wasn't her first visit to Indore for drug trafficking purposes. She is currently being interrogated."
The official confirmed that authorities have registered an FIR against her under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and a comprehensive investigation is currently in progress.
