Sources have informed NDTV that approximately Rs 7 crore may have been taken during the heist.
Bengaluru:
A significant daytime heist occurred in Bengaluru when a group of armed individuals, pretending to be Central Tax officers, intercepted an ATM cash-loading vehicle near the Ashoka Pillar and made off with cash valued at several crores of rupees. According to sources who spoke to NDTV, the stolen amount could be around Rs 7 crore.
The incident took place as a CMS cash van was transporting funds from HDFC Bank's JP Nagar branch. A Toyota Innova suddenly obstructed the vehicle's path. The individuals inside the Innova approached the CMS personnel, claiming to be representatives from the Central Tax Department who needed to examine documentation.
Before the cash van staff could respond, the suspects forcibly transferred them along with the money into the Innova. The perpetrators then drove toward Dairy Circle, where they released the CMS staff before escaping with the stolen funds.
The South Division Police have established specialized teams and initiated a comprehensive search operation to identify and apprehend the criminals. Initial investigations suggest that this was the work of a sophisticated and well-coordinated gang.
