BJP Demands Police Action After DMK Functionary's Alleged Death Threat Against PM Modi

Chennai:

The Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has called for immediate police intervention following the emergence of a video allegedly showing a DMK functionary making death threats against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the brief 22-second video clip, which NDTV has not independently verified, DMK's Jeyabalan is reportedly heard threatening the Prime Minister. NDTV has deliberately chosen not to reproduce the exact statements made in the recording.

A high-ranking police official informed NDTV, "We have received multiple complaints regarding this matter and are currently analyzing the video footage."

When questioned specifically about the authenticity of the speech, the officer stated, "We believe the individual did make these statements, and an investigation is currently underway."

The BJP has issued a strong condemnation of the alleged remarks. Party spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy declared, "This incident clearly demonstrates that the DMK is a party with violent tendencies."

BJP state leader Nagenthran has explicitly demanded the arrest of the DMK functionary involved.

This controversy emerges during a period of heightened tension between the ruling DMK and the Election Commission over the statewide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK has criticized the election body for expediting the process without providing sufficient training to field personnel, expressing concerns that substantial numbers of voters could potentially be removed from electoral rolls.

The party has escalated the matter by filing an appeal with the Supreme Court requesting a suspension of the revision exercise.

As of now, neither the DMK party leadership nor the functionary in question has issued any official response regarding the allegations.
