Soldier Killed In Encounter With Terrorists In J&K's Udhampur

A soldier lost his life during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, as reported by official sources. The confrontation took place yesterday evening after the army initiated an intelligence-based operation in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur - a mountainous junction connecting Udhampur, Doda, and Kathua districts in the Jammu region.

The terrorists involved were reportedly trained in jungle warfare techniques.

Basantgarh is known for regular confrontations between terrorists and security forces.

This marks the second significant encounter in Jammu and Kashmir within the past two weeks. Previously, two soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer of the army, were killed during combat in the Kulgam district. The army reported that two terrorists were eliminated in that encounter.

The Jammu region, once free from terrorism, has evolved into a major security challenge over the past four years. In response to increased activities of experienced terrorists in Jammu, the government has strengthened the counter-terrorism grid by deploying thousands of additional troops and paramilitary personnel throughout the region.
