Zubeen Garg Death Investigation: Centre Approves Legal Sanctions on Singer's 53rd Birth Anniversary

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday, coinciding with the 53rd birth anniversary of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, that the Union Home Ministry has granted the essential legal sanction needed to advance the investigation into the artist's death in Singapore.

The Chief Minister shared on X that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the necessary sanction under Section 208 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which now empowers investigators to formally proceed against those accused in connection with the case.

According to the provisions of Section 208 of BNSS, courts can only take cognizance of offenses committed outside India after receiving prior approval from the Central government.

CM Sarma described this clearance as a "crucial legal step" that ensures a lawful and comprehensive prosecution process.

"This sanction enables us to file the charge sheet and proceed firmly and lawfully with the trial of the case," the Chief Minister stated, further affirming the state government's commitment to submit the charge sheet against the accused by December 10.

This announcement arrives at an emotionally significant moment for fans of Zubeen Garg, who continue to seek transparency, accountability, and justice following the singer's unexpected death in Singapore.
