External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated on Monday that India-Russia relations have consistently served as a stabilizing element in international relations, and their continued development benefits not only both nations but also the global community.
During his opening remarks in a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Jaishankar noted that various bilateral agreements, initiatives, and projects are currently being negotiated across different sectors between the two nations.
"I appreciate this opportunity to meet again. Our regular interactions - you mentioned six already this year - have greatly facilitated our bilateral cooperation and allowed us to share perspectives on important regional, global, and multilateral issues. This particular meeting holds special significance as we prepare for President Putin's upcoming visit to India for the 23rd Annual Summit," he said.
"We are discussing numerous bilateral agreements, initiatives, and projects across various fields. We anticipate finalizing these in the coming days, which will certainly enhance our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership," he added.
Jaishankar mentioned that both countries would exchange views on the complex global situation "with the openness that has always characterized our relationship."
"This includes discussions on the Ukraine conflict, as well as situations in the Middle East and Afghanistan, among others. India supports recent peace-building efforts and hopes all parties will approach this goal constructively. An early end to the conflict and establishment of lasting peace serves the interests of the entire international community," he stated.
"India-Russia relations have long provided stability in international relations. The growth and evolution of this relationship benefits not only our mutual interests but also those of the world. I look forward to our discussions this evening," he added.
Jaishankar is currently in Moscow leading the Indian delegation for the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting, which will be hosted by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on November 18.
