Mumbai:

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its Animal Birth Control (ABC) program throughout Mumbai to address the increasing stray dog population across the city.

This initiative is being executed by the Veterinary Health Department in partnership with multiple animal welfare organizations, with a primary focus on widespread sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs.

According to BMC officials, eight animal welfare groups are actively involved in capturing stray dogs specifically for sterilization and vaccination procedures. Additionally, three organizations are administering on-site anti-rabies vaccinations to dogs in their respective areas. Officials have emphasized that stray dogs are only being captured for these medical interventions.

The municipal authorities have urged residents, especially those who regularly feed stray animals and pet owners, to support the volunteers working in the field. The administration has also requested citizens to avoid spreading misinformation about stray dog activities or the ABC program, highlighting that such actions could impede current efforts.

A BMC representative stated, "The Supreme Court's recent guidelines on stray dog management are being thoroughly implemented by the Veterinary Health Department. Along with following these directives, controlling the stray dog population and preventing unregulated breeding remains a key priority for the civic body."

Citizens with concerns or seeking more information about stray dogs can contact the BMC's Veterinary Health Department helpline at 7564976649.
