A dry fruit vendor from Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir has succumbed to his injuries at a Srinagar hospital after setting himself on fire following police interrogation related to a terror module investigation.

Bilal Ahmad Wani self-immolated on Sunday shortly after being released from police custody, sustaining severe burn injuries in the process.

Both Wani and his son Jasir Bilal had been detained for questioning regarding the recently uncovered white collar terror module by Jammu and Kashmir Police. While authorities released Wani the same day, his son Jisrar Bilal remained in custody for additional questioning.

Wani resided in the neighborhood of Dr. Adeel Rather, a primary suspect in the white collar terror module first discovered in Faridabad, Haryana earlier this month. Rather was apprehended in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh in November, which exposed an extensive terror conspiracy.

Dr. Muzaffar, Adeel's brother, is also believed to be a key conspirator and is reportedly located in Afghanistan.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding Wani's death or the circumstances surrounding his self-immolation.
