Patna:
Former RJD Vice-President Shivanand Tiwari has publicly questioned Lalu Prasad Yadav's silence during a family crisis involving his daughter Rohini Acharya. Tiwari criticized the RJD patriarch for apparently remaining passive when Rohini left their home in tears following an alleged confrontation with her brother Tejashwi Yadav.
The family dispute emerged in the aftermath of RJD's disappointing performance in the Bihar Assembly elections. The party, led by Tejashwi Yadav and in alliance with Congress and Left parties, secured only 25 seats—a dramatic decline from their previous tally of 75 seats in 2020.
Rohini Acharya, who had donated a kidney to her father in 2022, made serious allegations after the electoral defeat. She announced her withdrawal from politics and distancing from her family, claiming that Tejashwi had allegedly thrown a slipper at her and blamed her for the party's poor electoral showing.
"I was subjected to abuses and accused of donating my bad kidney to my father, supposedly in exchange for money and a party ticket," Rohini stated. She further advised married women against helping their parents, suggesting instead that their brothers or their associates should step forward in such situations. Rohini has specifically named Tejashwi's aides Sanjay Yadav and Rameez for working against her interests.
In his conversation with NDTV, Shivanand Tiwari questioned Lalu Yadav's apparent indifference: "Is he blind to what's happening? His daughter left his home after allegedly having a slipper thrown at her, departing in tears. A daughter leaves her father's residence crying, while Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi simply observed without intervention."
Tiwari also criticized the organizational structure of parties like RJD, describing them as being dominated by a single individual. "I became vice president because Lalu Prasad Yadav instructed me to. I wasn't seeking any position. What actual authority does the vice-president hold? These political entities function as one-man operations," he remarked. The experienced politician claimed he was removed from his vice-presidential position after suggesting that Tejashwi Yadav should organize street protests against the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls before the Bihar election.
