Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Refutes Resignation Rumors, Reaffirms Commitment to Congress Party

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has firmly denied rumors about his resignation as Congress Karnataka unit chief, emphasizing his loyalty as a "disciplined soldier" of the party. Amidst speculation of leadership changes following CM Siddaramaiah's meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Shivakumar clarified his Delhi visit was to invite Congress leadership for foundation-laying ceremonies of 100 new party offices in Karnataka.

Won't Blackmail Congress By Threatening To Resign: DK Shivakumar

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar firmly refuted rumors regarding his potential resignation as the Karnataka unit chief of Congress, stating that he considers himself a "disciplined soldier" of the party.

These clarifications emerged amid growing speculation about potential leadership changes and a Cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that took place in New Delhi on Saturday.

Shivakumar emphasized that any decision concerning a Cabinet reshuffle remains entirely within Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's authority, and would only be implemented after appropriate consultations with the party's high command.

He revealed that his visit to Delhi was primarily to extend invitations to Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for the upcoming foundation-laying ceremony for 100 new Congress offices across Karnataka.

"We have a foundation-laying ceremony and several other events planned. Who will manage all these responsibilities? I need to handle them. Why would I consider resigning as state Congress president? That situation hasn't materialized," Shivakumar explained to reporters in New Delhi.

"I remain committed to serving the party as a disciplined soldier, fulfilling whatever responsibilities are entrusted to me," he further stated.

Shivakumar attributed these rumors to media speculation, asserting, "I would never blackmail the Congress. I've built this party and worked diligently day and night for its progress. I will continue this dedication in the future. Our party will return to power in Karnataka in 2028."

Beyond the foundation-laying ceremony for the 100 Congress offices, Shivakumar also plans to launch "Gandhi-Bharat," a book he authored. This publication details the historical Congress Belagavi session led by Mahatma Gandhi a century ago, along with how the party organized centenary celebrations of that significant session.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara indicated on Sunday that the state would only undergo a Cabinet reshuffle rather than a complete leadership change. While speculation about an impending reshuffle has been circulating, Siddaramaiah clarified during his Delhi visit that discussions had focused on Bihar elections outcomes rather than Cabinet restructuring.
