The BJP has launched a scathing critique of Lalu Yadav's family's "patriarchal mentality" following allegations that the RJD patriarch's daughter was harassed by family members and blamed for the party's crushing electoral defeat. BJP officials mockingly questioned how those unable to manage their own household could aspire to govern Bihar, responding to Rohini Acharya's public grievances.
Acharya, Tejashwi Yadav's elder sister and potential RJD heir, announced her withdrawal from politics yesterday. She claimed senior RJD leader Sanjay Yadav and Tejashwi's close associate Rameez Khan held her responsible for the party's electoral failure.
Her shocking revelations included claims of being threatened with a slipper and accusations that she purchased an election ticket in exchange for her "dirty kidney" - referencing her 2022 kidney donation to her father, Lalu Yadav.
The BJP, which maintained power in Bihar with JDU, seized this opportunity to scrutinize the treatment of women within the Yadav family. Amit Malviya, head of BJP's IT department, characterized the Yadav family as having a "patriarchal, anti-woman, and male-dominated mentality," specifically referencing the slipper incident.
"Rohini Acharya sacrificed her kidney for her father Lalu Prasad, risking her own health to extend his life. Yet Lalu prioritized his son Tejashwi over his daughter Rohini's dignity. Today, Rohini Acharya publicly states she was assaulted with slippers within the family. This reveals the true patriarchal, anti-woman, and male-dominated mindset of the Lalu family. Expecting them to respect women is unreasonable," Malviya stated.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha also criticized the family, questioning their capability to govern Bihar when they couldn't maintain family harmony. "The chaos visible outside RJD is mirrored within the family. How can individuals with such mentality, unable to preserve their own family unity, govern Bihar? While it's their personal matter and we'll limit our comments, this mindset will determine their future," the BJP leader remarked.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, a popular Bhojpuri performer with substantial support in Bihar, suggested Acharya's allegations reflected the mentality of a regime notorious for 'jungle raj.' "Those aspiring to govern Bihar couldn't manage their own families. Rohini Acharya claimed she was evicted and assaulted for questioning things - this exemplifies the mentality associated with the jungle raj regime," Tiwari told ANI.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan, a key BJP ally in Bihar, refrained from criticizing the Yadav family, stating he considers all Yadav children - Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap, Misa Bharti, and Rohini Acharya - his siblings. "I've experienced similar situations. Despite political differences, I've always considered Lalu ji's family my own. Whether Tejashwi, Tej, Misa or Rohini, I view them as siblings. I pray their family dispute resolves quickly," he added.
