Bungee Jumping Accident in Rishikesh: Gurgaon Man Survives 35-Meter Fall After Rope Failure

Officials confirmed the man experienced chest injuries from the fall.

A 23-year-old Gurgaon resident suffered critical injuries when his bungee rope unexpectedly broke during a jump in Rishikesh. The accident happened on Wednesday, November 12, at the Shivpuri Thrill Factory adventure sports center. Reports indicate the man fell approximately 35 meters before hitting the ground.

Authorities reported that the victim sustained chest injuries and was rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh for immediate medical attention. Police later confirmed that he responded well to treatment and is no longer in critical condition.

A viral video documenting the incident shows the injured man in severe pain on a tin surface with the severed bungee rope visible above him.

The Times of India identified the injured individual as Sonu Kumar, a 24-year-old Bachelor of Arts student from Gurgaon.

Police have not registered an FIR as the victim's family has not lodged a formal complaint. Officers from Muni Ki Reti police station in Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal district have requested a technical team to investigate the cause of the accident.

"We are investigating whether operator negligence or equipment failure caused the incident. We will verify if the company has been following all safety regulations," an officer stated.

Tehri Garhwal District Magistrate Nikita Khandelwal informed TOI, "I have initiated an inquiry into the incident and suspended all activities at Thrill Factory pending investigation completion. We are also conducting safety audits of all adventure activity operators in the area."

The Shivpuri Thrill Factory offers various adventure activities including rope cycling, suspended catch air device (SCAD) jump, and reverse bungee jumping.

Police mentioned they will take the victim's statement once medical clearance is granted.
