Mother of RG Kar Rape Victim Accuses CBI of Protecting Real Culprits in High-Profile Investigation

At present, the Central Bureau of Investigation is examining the possibility of a "larger conspiracy" behind the crime.

The mother of the victim in the RG Kar rape and murder case made serious allegations against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during a trial court hearing in Kolkata on Friday, claiming the agency has made concerted efforts to shield the actual perpetrators.

"Despite being India's premier investigative agency, the CBI has taken every possible step to protect the real culprits in this case. The investigating official doesn't respond to our calls, and they have yet to submit the supplementary chargesheet," the victim's mother stated emphatically.

The parents of the deceased requested permission to provide a confidential statement before a judicial magistrate, a move that faced opposition from the CBI's legal representative.

During Friday's proceedings, the CBI presented its seventh status report detailing investigative progress, noting that 11 additional individuals had been interrogated in connection with the case.

Previously, this same court had identified Sanjay Roy, a former civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, as the sole perpetrator in the rape and murder of the junior female doctor that occurred in August last year, sentencing him to life imprisonment.

Currently, the CBI's investigation focuses on whether there was a "larger conspiracy" behind this heinous crime.

Since the beginning of the second phase of the investigation, the victim's parents have consistently accused the central agency of conducting a superficial probe.

However, this marks the first instance where the victim's mother has directly accused the CBI of deliberately protecting the primary culprits in the case.

The female CBI officer present in court appeared visibly affected by the victim's mother's emotional outburst.

Following the hearing's conclusion, this officer was observed leaving the courtroom with tears in her eyes.

"I am also a mother," she told reporters in a voice choked with emotion.
