Two people lost consciousness at Shreya Ghoshal's concert in Cuttack, Odisha when a stampede-like situation began to develop near the barricades separating the stage from the audience.
According to eyewitnesses, the crowd became restless before the concert even started. During the chaos, two individuals, including one woman, fainted. They were promptly taken to a first aid center and subsequently transferred to a nearby hospital for additional treatment.
Police and event organizers acted quickly, deploying extra security personnel to manage the crowd and prevent further incidents. The Additional Commissioner of Police arrived at the venue to evaluate the situation.
Some reports indicated that police used mild lathi-charge to disperse unruly sections of the crowd, with several people fainting and requiring immediate medical attention. However, no serious injuries or fatalities were confirmed at the event, which highlighted potential issues with crowd management.
Commissioner of Police S Dev Datta Singh told PTI, "There was no such unpleasant situation. It is true that there was a huge crowd, but we managed it properly. One person sustained a minor injury and is stable."
The incident occurred during the Bali Yatra festival, which ran from November 5 to 13. This festival featured cultural programs, trade stalls, and celebrity appearances, attracting millions of visitors who came to commemorate the state's seafaring history through the symbolic "Boita Bandana" ritual.
