The blast near the Red Fort in Delhi killed 13 people
New Delhi:
Investigators of the Delhi car bomb blast that claimed 13 lives have discovered connections to suspects in Dubai, according to sources. This development follows earlier allegations linking suspects to Turkey and Pakistan.
The Dubai connection emerged during the interrogation of Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather, who was arrested for displaying posters supporting Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar.
Dr. Rather, a Saharanpur resident from Uttar Pradesh, revealed to investigators that his brother, Muzzafar Rather, traveled to Pakistan before relocating to Dubai approximately two months ago.
This revelation has redirected the investigation's focus toward Muzzafar Rather, who is suspected of maintaining direct ties with JeM, sources indicated.
Investigators believe Muzzafar's Dubai visit was likely intended to secure funding for terrorist operations. Authorities are working to determine whom Muzzafar met in Pakistan prior to his departure for Dubai.
Dr. Adil Ahmed, whose November 6 arrest in UP exposed the intricate terror plot, faces intense questioning regarding potential connections with suspects in Turkey. He previously served as a senior resident doctor at the Government Medical College in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir.
The investigation has uncovered an extensive network of medical professionals and religious figures collaborating with terrorist organizations.
While the Dubai connection investigation continues, investigators have confirmed that Dr. Umar Mohammad drove the i20 vehicle that exploded near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday.
Dr. Mohammad worked as a senior doctor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. DNA analysis confirmed a 100% match between samples from his remains and those from his mother and brother. The DNA was matched using bones, teeth, and clothing fragments recovered from the i20 after the explosion.
The explosion occurred just hours after police seized nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two residential buildings in Faridabad.
Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, identified as a crucial figure in the "white-collar" terrorist network extending from Jammu and Kashmir throughout India, is among three doctors currently in custody.
Investigators believe the Faridabad intervention prevented a more devastating catastrophe, potentially involving coordinated explosions across cities including Delhi. The operation demonstrated how early intelligence gathering and inter-state cooperation can effectively counter terrorist threats.
The terror cell involving doctors allegedly affiliated with JeM had planned attacks at six locations across the National Capital Region on December 6. This date holds significance as the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya. According to arrested suspects, this date was selected to "avenge the Babri Masjid demolition."
