Residents in southwest Delhi's Mahipalpur experienced panic this morning following a loud blast-like sound, which police later confirmed was merely a bus tyre burst.
The incident created concern as the Capital remains on high alert after Monday evening's devastating explosion in the crowded Red Fort area that resulted in 13 fatalities.
The tyre burst occurred in proximity to the Radisson Hotel.
According to Delhi Fire Services, they received an emergency call at 9.19 am reporting a blast-like sound near Radisson in Mahipalpur. They immediately dispatched three fire tenders to investigate the scene.
Despite comprehensive searching, neither the fire brigade nor police teams found anything suspicious at the location.
In related news, sources indicate that Delhi Blast suspects had initially planned a Diwali attack before abandoning the idea.
"We contacted the caller who reported hearing a loud noise while traveling to Gurugram. After thoroughly checking the area, we found nothing concerning," stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel.
"During our local inquiry, a security guard informed us that the rear tyre of a DTC bus heading toward Dhaula Kuan had burst, which was the source of the noise," he explained.
The officer assured that the situation is normal and there is no cause for concern.
On Monday evening, a white Hyundai i20 exploded near Red Fort, leaving 20 people injured. The explosion was powerful enough to damage several nearby vehicles. The area immediately descended into chaos as bystanders rushed to assist the injured.
Investigators subsequently traced a second vehicle—a red Ford EcoSport—to Faridabad. However, a third suspected vehicle, believed to be a Maruti Brezza, remains unlocated.
Sources confirm that DNA analysis of samples from the Red Fort blast site has verified that Dr. Umar Nabi was driving the exploded vehicle. Umar was a significant member of a "white collar" terror network dismantled earlier this week. He originates from Koil village in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama.
The explosion occurred shortly after police disrupted a terror module with connections to banned organizations Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, arresting eight individuals including three doctors.
Police seized approximately 3,000 kilograms of explosive materials—including ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulphur—after dismantling the terror network that operated across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
Following the explosion, authorities have secured the area surrounding the historic monument, with police and forensic teams conducting thorough searches to collect evidence. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Thursday that Lal Quila metro station will remain closed indefinitely due to security concerns.
