Nine people were killed and 20 others were injured after a car exploded near Red Fort on Monday
New Delhi:
Investigators probing the blast near Delhi's iconic Red Fort have uncovered a disturbing plan: the suspected terror module involving doctors allegedly connected to Jaish-e-Mohammad had orchestrated blasts at six locations across the National Capital Region scheduled for December 6.
The significance of this date cannot be overlooked: December 6 marks the anniversary when the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was demolished in 1992. During interrogation, the suspected terrorists arrested following the blast revealed they selected this specific date to "avenge the Babri Masjid demolition".
According to top intelligence sources, members of the suspected terror module disclosed during questioning that they had developed a methodical phase-wise strategy to execute serial blasts throughout the National Capital Region. Officials have outlined the details of this five-phase plan:
Phase 1: Establishment of the terror module affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind
Phase 2: Acquisition of raw materials for assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and securing ammunition, obtained from Nuh and Gurugram in Haryana
Phase 3: Production of deadly chemical IEDs and surveillance of potential target locations
Phase 4: Distribution of assembled bombs among module members following surveillance
Phase 5 (Final): Implementation of coordinated bombings across six to seven locations in Delhi
Investigators reported that the attacks were initially planned for August this year, but operational delays necessitated selecting a new date: December 6, coinciding with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary.
The 16th-century mosque, believed to have been built at Lord Ram's birthplace, was demolished by a mob on December 6, 1992. After a lengthy Supreme Court legal battle, a new Ram Temple was constructed at the same site. Construction commenced in 2020 and concluded this year.
Officials have highlighted that for years, Jaish-e-Mohammed has issued threats and called for retribution regarding the Babri Masjid demolition. Notably, Jaish chief Masood Azhar has vowed to target Ayodhya in his weekly columns.
Thirteen people lost their lives and over 20 others sustained injuries when a car exploded near a traffic signal by the Red Fort Metro station. The vehicle was driven by Dr. Umar Mohammed, also known as Umar un-Nabi, a Kashmiri doctor employed at Al Falah University in Faridabad. The explosion occurred after authorities recovered 2,900 kg of explosive material, presumed to be ammonium nitrate, during raids in Faridabad that led to the arrests of doctors Muzammil Sheikh and Shaheen Saeed. These doctors are suspected to be members of Jaish's newly formed terror module comprising highly educated professionals.
Investigators suggest that preparations for a large-scale attack in the national capital region were underway, with the recovered explosives and weapons amassed for its execution. The investigation revealed that Umar, panicking after his associates' arrests, desperately carried out the car blast.
