Mumbai:

An IndiGo aircraft traveling from Mumbai to Phuket on Friday was rerouted to Chennai following the detection of a security threat onboard, according to IndiGo officials.

In an official statement, IndiGo representatives explained, "IndiGo flight 6E 1089, operating from Mumbai to Phuket on 19 September 2025, was diverted to Chennai after a security threat was identified onboard. Following established protocols, relevant authorities were promptly notified, and the aircraft will undergo comprehensive security inspections in Chennai. Due to night-time restrictions at Phuket airport, the continuation of the journey has been scheduled for later that night."

"We are taking all possible measures to reduce inconvenience to passengers, including providing refreshments and regular status updates. Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our passengers, crew members, and aircraft," the statement continued.

Previously, IndiGo flight 6E-2111, traveling from Lucknow to Delhi on September 14, experienced technical difficulties just before departure and was returned to the terminal, according to sources.

Following the technical issue, as a precautionary measure, the aircraft was brought back to the bay and all passengers were safely evacuated. The airline subsequently arranged an alternative aircraft to ensure passengers could complete their journey to Delhi.

In a separate incident, over 100 travelers on a SpiceJet flight bound for Kathmandu encountered significant difficulties at Delhi airport when their aircraft developed a technical problem, necessitating passenger deplaning.

According to ANI's video journalist who was present on the flight, SpiceJet flight SG41 was initially scheduled for an 8:10 AM departure but was delayed until 9:30 AM. The aircraft briefly moved onto the runway without any announcements from the crew. Meanwhile, passengers suffered in a cabin with non-functioning air conditioning and remained seated on the aircraft for more than an hour.

Eventually, the aircraft returned to the parking area, where crew members cited a "technical issue" as the reason for the delay. Passengers were then instructed to disembark and were made to wait in a bus near the parking zone, according to the video journalist.
