Assam Police have apprehended five additional individuals across different regions of the state following controversial online posts related to the Delhi Red Fort blast incident.
The arrests come after authorities had already detained retired school principal Nazrul Islam Barbhuiya from Silchar on similar charges of making inflammatory statements regarding the explosion.
Police identified the newly arrested individuals as Mattiur Rahman from Darrang, Hassan Ali Mondal from Goalpara, Abdul Latif from Chirang, Wajhul Kamal from Kamrup, and Nur Amin Ahmed from Bongaigaon.
According to law enforcement sources, these arrests resulted from extensive monitoring of online communications aimed at curbing the dissemination of communal hatred and preventing glorification of terrorist activities.
The Assam Police have emphasized their commitment to taking immediate action against anyone utilizing social media platforms to instigate violence or disrupt public order.
On Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma connected those implicated in the Delhi blast to religious extremism, noting that education alone cannot eliminate radical ideologies.
During his media address in Guwahati, Chief Minister Sarma remarked, "Being educated can make a person more dangerous if there is a flaw in the mind," and further observed that even highly trained professionals such as doctors might embrace extremist views.
The explosion took place on the evening of November 10, when a white Hyundai i20 exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station on Netaji Subhash Marg, a heavily trafficked area adjacent to both Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. The powerful blast damaged multiple vehicles and shattered windows in nearby buildings.
