Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the sacred Kalachakra 'wheel of time' on the second day of his Bhutan visit, marking the beginning of the Kalachakra Empowerment ceremony that commenced on Wednesday as part of the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival.
The significant ceremony was attended by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and presided over by Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan, adding profound importance to the occasion.
Taking to social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi shared images of the event and expressed, "Had the honour of inaugurating Kālacakra 'Wheel of Time' Empowerment with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo. It was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo which made it even more special."
He further emphasized that this ritual holds immense cultural significance for Buddhists worldwide, noting that the Kalachakra Empowerment forms part of the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival which has brought together Buddhist devotees and scholars to Bhutan.
Just a day prior, PM Modi joined the Bhutanese King to seek blessings from Lord Buddha's Holy Relics at Thimphu's Tashichhodzong, highlighting the deep-rooted cultural and spiritual connections between the two neighboring Himalayan nations.
The relics, displayed at the Grand Kuenrey Hall, were specially brought from India for exposition to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan's Fourth King and the Global Peace Prayer Festival organized by Bhutan's Royal Government.
The Prime Minister also participated in celebration events marking the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan's Fourth King, reinforcing the enduring friendship and spiritual bond shared between India and Bhutan.
Modi's participation in this spiritual event reaffirms India's profound cultural and people-to-people ties with the Himalayan nation, representing a fundamental aspect of their lasting partnership.
