PM Modi Inaugurates Kalachakra Empowerment Ceremony in Bhutan: Strengthening India-Bhutan Cultural and Diplomatic Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the prestigious 'Kalachakra Empowerment' ceremony in Bhutan, marking a significant cultural and diplomatic event.
The ceremony took place in Thimpu, where PM Modi was joined by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck during the ongoing Global Peace Prayer Festival.
Taking to social media, PM Modi expressed, "Had the honour of inaugurating Kalachakra 'Wheel of Time' Empowerment with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo."
He further highlighted that the ceremony was presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, making the occasion especially meaningful.
The Prime Minister emphasized the cultural significance of this ritual for Buddhists worldwide, noting that the Kalachakra Empowerment forms an integral part of the Global Peace Prayer Festival, which has attracted Buddhist devotees and scholars to Bhutan.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi met with Bhutan's former King Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Following their discussions, he shared, "Had a wonderful meeting with His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Appreciated his extensive efforts over the years towards further cementing India-Bhutan ties."
Their talks covered substantial bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, technology, and connectivity sectors. PM Modi also expressed appreciation for progress in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project, which he noted aligns with India's Act East Policy.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister thanked the former king for his wise counsel and guidance in strengthening the special friendship between India and Bhutan, while conveying the best wishes from the government and people of India for his continued good health and longevity.
PM Modi's current two-day visit to the Himalayan nation also included addressing an event at Changlimethang Stadium on Tuesday to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of Bhutan's fourth 'Druk Gyalpo' Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
During this address, he emphasized the centuries-old deep spiritual and cultural bond between India and Bhutan, reiterating his commitment to participate in this important occasion.
