According to sources, the Hyundai i20 was owned by Umar Mohammad, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. He was reportedly driving the vehicle when the explosion occurred. Umar, who is a doctor by profession, allegedly has connections to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Sources indicate he panicked and triggered the explosion near Red Fort after investigators arrested Shakeel and another key member of the cell—Dr. Adil Rather—and confiscated explosives.

"Umar Mohammad and his associates utilized Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) to execute the attack. They placed a detonator inside the vehicle and carried out the terrorist attack in a crowded area near Red Fort," sources revealed.
