Alappuzha:
Excise officers in Kerala's Alappuzha district conducted one of the region's largest narcotics seizures, apprehending three key members of an interstate drug network during a checkpoint operation near the KSRTC bus stand.
The authorities identified the arrested individuals as Rinas from Mannanchery, Ananthu from Thrissur, and Appu from Ernakulam.
Officials recovered 2.2 kilograms of cannabis, 1.1 kilograms of hashish oil, 4 grams of methamphetamine, and 334 MDMA pills from the suspects. Additional items seized included Rs 63,500 in cash and five mobile phones.
According to investigating officers, the three individuals had been transporting narcotics from neighboring states into Kerala. They employed sophisticated methods including virtual phone numbers and a "drop system" delivery technique to evade detection. Their operation utilized local agents who connected potential customers to the group, enabling discreet delivery arrangements.
In a separate but related enforcement action, police arrested 22-year-old Joel George from Puthenvelikkara with 46.55 grams of MDMA. Authorities intercepted the suspect at North Paravur after he traveled from Bengaluru to Aluva by train while attempting to avoid surveillance.
Police reported that George had been distributing synthetic drugs throughout Kochi, primarily targeting younger consumers.
