The Hyundai i20 vehicle involved in the Delhi explosion changed ownership multiple times before the incident.
Authorities have detained Sonu, a car dealer from Haryana, for interrogation regarding the Delhi blast incident. Sonu allegedly participated in selling the Hyundai vehicle that detonated near the Red Fort on Monday evening, resulting in nine fatalities and injuring 20 others.
Haryana Police have confirmed that Sonu, who owns Royal Car Zone, has been transferred to Delhi Police custody.
Royal Car Zone operates in the used car market, offering both sales and financing services from its headquarters in Sector 37 of Faridabad, Haryana.
According to insider information, Sonu reportedly handled the vehicle's sale to Dr. Umar Mohammad, a suspected suicide bomber in the Delhi explosion case. Surveillance footage dated October 29 shows the vehicle undergoing an emissions test at a fuel station near Royal Car Zone's office.
Investigations indicate the vehicle changed ownership seven times. Sources reveal that in March 2025, a Gurugram resident named Salman sold the car to Devender from Okhla.
Devender subsequently transferred ownership to an Ambala resident.
From Ambala, the vehicle made its way to Pulwama, where connections between Aamir Rashid, Tariq Malik, and Umar Rashid were discovered. These three individuals were apprehended on Monday.
Investigations disclosed that Aamir provided the car to Umar Mohammad. One photograph shows Aamir holding the vehicle key, presumably taken after his purchase of the car.
Both Aamir and Tariq are currently being interrogated by Delhi Police investigators.
Dr. Umar Mohammad was born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir on February 24, 1989. He worked as a physician at Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad. After receiving his MD in Medicine from Government Medical College (GMC) in Srinagar, he served as a senior resident at GMC Anantnag before transferring to Faridabad.
Body fragments and hand remains were recovered from the damaged vehicle. DNA analysis will be conducted to determine if the remains belong to Dr. Umar Mohammad.
At 6:52 PM on Monday, a white Hyundai i20 stopped at a traffic light on Subhas Marg, a busy area in old Delhi, and exploded within seconds, according to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha. The blast was powerful enough to ignite 22 nearby vehicles and throw people through the air. Fifteen fire engines required thirty minutes to control the resulting fire. Ground footage revealed dismembered bodies scattered throughout the area.
Earlier that day, Jammu and Kashmir police, collaborating with Haryana police, dismantled a "white-collar" terrorist network and arrested Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr. Mujammil Shakil, close associates of Dr. Umar Mohammad. Authorities seized 2,900 kg of explosives along with weapons including assault rifles and pistols. Sources suggest this police action may have prompted Dr. Umar Mohammad to execute the bombing.
