Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Tuesday that those responsible for the deadly blast near Delhi's Red Fort "will be brought to justice," following the explosion that claimed nine lives.
"Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators behind this will not be spared," PM Modi stated while addressing an audience in Thimphu, Bhutan.
"Today I come here with a heavy heart. The horrific incident that occurred in Delhi yesterday evening has saddened everyone. I understand the grief of the affected families. Today the entire nation stands with them," the Prime Minister expressed during his two-day diplomatic visit to Bhutan.
Modi confirmed that he remained in constant communication with investigating agencies throughout the night following the incident.
Notably, the Prime Minister switched from Hindi to English to deliver his resolute message to the international community, stating clearly, "All those responsible will be brought to justice."
The devastating explosion occurred at 6:52 PM, tearing through a white Hyundai i20 stopped at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station. The blast killed nine people, injured 20 others, and damaged numerous nearby vehicles in one of Delhi's busiest areas.
Intelligence sources have identified the car owner as Umar Mohammad from Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama. Umar, a medical professional, was reportedly driving the vehicle when the explosion happened and is believed to have connections to a radical doctors' group operating on Telegram with links to the Pakistan-based terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Earlier the same day, police in neighboring Faridabad, Haryana had seized 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable materials from two rooms rented by a Kashmiri doctor named Muzammil Shakeel.
Authorities arrested Shakeel along with another Kashmiri doctor, Adeel Ahmad Rather, and six others allegedly involved in a "white-collar terror" network connected to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind operating across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The recovered explosive materials included ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and sulphur. Sources now indicate a connection between the Red Fort blast and this "white-collar" terror module, with Umar Mohammad allegedly being part of the same network.
Government sources have confirmed that "Operation Sindoor," launched on May 7 following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, is currently active. "Any act of terror would be considered an act of war against India. Operation Sindoor is on," the sources stated.
This military operation was initiated after establishing cross-border connections to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. Indian armed forces subsequently targeted multiple terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, reportedly eliminating over 100 terrorists.
Pakistan responded with missile and drone attacks, which India intercepted before conducting retaliatory strikes on Pakistani airfields. A ceasefire was eventually announced on May 10.
PM Modi had issued a similar warning following the Pahalgam attack, declaring at an event in Bihar: "From the soil of Bihar, I am telling the world that India will identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and their backers."
Speaking in both Hindi and English to emphasize his message internationally, he had vowed: "We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth... India's spirit will never be broken, and terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve, and everyone who believes in humanity is with us."
He concluded with the clear statement: "I want to say... in very clear words... that these terrorists and those who conspired towards this attack will get a punishment bigger than they can imagine."
