Umar Mohammad was a doctor at the Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad.
New Delhi:
Dr Umar Mohammad, a member of a radical doctors' group communicating via Telegram and linked to Pakistan-based terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), is the central figure in the Delhi blast investigation. He allegedly drove the Hyundai i20 that exploded near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday evening, resulting in nine fatalities and 20 injuries.
Born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir on February 24, 1989, Umar Mohammad worked at Faridabad's Al Falah Medical College. He completed his MD in Medicine from Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and previously served as a senior resident at GMC Anantnag before transferring to Faridabad.
Investigators believe he was a close associate of Adeel Ahmad Rather and Mujammil Shakil, two doctors arrested Monday as part of what authorities describe as a "white collar" terror module.
Reports suggest Umar panicked following his associates' arrests and detonated the explosive device in his white Hyundai i20.
Body fragments, including hand remains, have been discovered in the damaged vehicle. DNA testing will be conducted to confirm whether these remains belong to Umar Mohammad.
Sources indicate Umar Mohammad maintained close ties with Dr Adeel, and both were members of a radical doctors' group that utilized Telegram channels for communication.
According to surveillance footage, Umar drove from Badarpur through Ashram, Sarai Kale Khan, and ITO before parking near Red Fort. The vehicle remained parked for over three hours, arriving at 3:19 pm and departing around 6:30 pm. Sources report Umar never exited the vehicle during this period.
Three additional suspects have been implicated in the Delhi 10/11 blast: Tariq Ahmed Malik, Aamir Rashid, and Umar Rashid. All three were apprehended in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night. Tariq and Aamir have been transported to Srinagar for questioning, while Umar Rashid remains in Pampore.
Investigation reveals that Aamir provided the car to Umar Mohammad. One image shows Aamir holding the car key, presumably taken after purchasing the vehicle.
Aamir Rashid Mir, 27, son of Ab Rashid Mir, previously worked as a plumber.
Tariq Malik, 44, was employed as a security guard at a Pulwama bank.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the incident on Tuesday from Thimphu, Bhutan, stating: "Our agencies will get to the bottom of this conspiracy. The conspirators behind this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice."
