New Delhi:
A tragic scene unfolded outside LNJP Hospital on Monday night as families desperately waited for news about their loved ones after a powerful car explosion near Red Fort killed eight people and left 24 injured.
The atmosphere was filled with confusion and sorrow as relatives complained about insufficient information and poor management. Many family members reported being prevented from entering the hospital to check on victims.
Sudheer Sharma from Rohtas Nagar in Shahdara revealed that his son Ankush Sharma was fighting for his life in the ICU following the explosion. "My son visited the Gauri Shankar temple with his friend Rahul Kaushik. While Rahul received stitches for his head injury and was discharged, Ankush remains in critical condition," he explained, noting that his son worked at a jewelry shop.
Zeeshan Ansari, brother-in-law of injured victim Dawd, said, "He called me after the incident. We hurried here immediately but haven't been allowed to see him yet." Mohammad Danish, cousin of injured auto-rickshaw driver Sameer Khan, learned about the incident from a stranger who called him.
"Sameer is in the ICU. We still don't know the severity of his condition," Danish explained.
Tahir Mohammad, another relative of Sameer, complained, "The hospital staff isn't letting us see him." In one emotional incident, an elderly man was observed begging police and hospital security to allow him inside to check on his son.
After a heated exchange, they finally permitted him entry.
Several people described "complete mismanagement" at the hospital, citing a lack of clear directions about where to go or which entrance to use.
"We simply want to know if our family members are alive," one person stated.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also visited LNJP Hospital to personally evaluate the situation.
The explosion, which occurred at 6:52 pm near the Red Fort traffic signal, damaged multiple vehicles and left numerous people critically injured.
Officials confirmed that all major agencies, including Delhi Police, NIA, NSG, and forensic teams, are investigating the cause of the blast.
