Deadly Explosion Near Delhi's Red Fort: NSG Team Investigates as Death Toll Reaches Eight

A devastating explosion near Delhi's Red Fort metro station killed eight people and injured 20 others when a Hyundai i20 car detonated. National Security Guard teams, along with multiple agencies, responded to the incident that occurred on the same day as a major ammonium nitrate seizure in nearby Faridabad. National Security Guard Team Reaches Delhi Red Fort Blast Site

A National Security Guard (NSG) team promptly arrived at the explosion site near Delhi's Red Fort where a Hyundai i20 car detonated, resulting in eight fatalities and leaving 20 others injured.

The explosion occurred at 6:52 pm near Gate 1 of the Red Fort metro station, causing significant damage to several vehicles in the vicinity. Thick smoke rose from the subsequent fire as shattered glass fragments covered the roadway.

Multiple emergency responders joined the NSG at the scene, including fire officials, Delhi Police's specialized units, National Investigation Agency (NIA) personnel, forensic experts, and canine units. A fire department representative confirmed to PTI that "six cars, two e-rickshaws and one autorickshaw were destroyed by the fire."

The blast struck the densely populated Old Delhi area on the same day authorities recovered approximately 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate along with various weapons and ammunition from a Kashmiri doctor's rented residence in Haryana's Faridabad.

Sanjay Bhargav, who heads the Chandni Chowk Traders' Association and owns a shop approximately 800 meters from the explosion site, reported that the entire building shook from the blast's force. Another witness recounted, "I was at the gurdwara when I heard a strong sound. We couldn't make out what it was, it was that loud."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he had conferred with Home Minister Amit Shah and other officials regarding the situation following the deadly explosion near Red Fort metro station. He reassured the public that affected individuals were receiving assistance from authorities.

Home Minister Shah visited both the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital where the injured are receiving treatment and the explosion site. He informed reporters that investigators are exploring all possible angles of the incident.

Following the explosion, heightened security alerts have been implemented across multiple states including Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Kolkata, Jaipur, Haryana, Hyderabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
