Bengaluru:
A distressing incident of bullying has come to light in Mysuru, Karnataka, where a 13-year-old boy suffered serious testicular injuries after being attacked by three classmates on school grounds. The family reports that the Class 8 student had been subjected to persistent harassment by these classmates who regularly coerced him into bringing cash and mobile phones which they would confiscate.
The incident occurred on October 25 when the perpetrators allegedly led the victim to the washroom and physically assaulted him. According to the family, police were initially reluctant to file an FIR but eventually did so after pressure from the victim's relatives.
Authorities at Jayalakshmipuram police station have registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to voluntarily causing hurt and endangering life or personal safety. The accused classmates have also been charged under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Speaking to media, the young victim revealed that the harassment had been ongoing for four years: "This started when I was in Class 4. I was appointed class leader and instructed to report misconduct. When I did, they beat me. My mother complained to the teacher, but no action was taken." Describing the recent assault, he stated, "Two of them restrained me while another kicked me in my private parts twice."
The police report names the school management head and relevant teachers as the primary accused in the case.
