The victim is currently fighting for his life in a private hospital with critical injuries.
In Gurugram, a Class 11 student was shot by his classmate who became "angered" when the victim was engrossed in his mobile phone and repeatedly ignored the shooter's questions, according to police reports on Monday.
Authorities have apprehended both the primary accused and another boy who was present during the incident. Both have been transferred to a correction facility in Faridabad.
The shooting occurred on Saturday at the accused's residence in Sector 48. The 17-year-old victim suffered severe trauma to his neck bone in the attack, and doctors describe his condition as critical.
The victim's family alleges that the accused harbored resentment stemming from a previous altercation between the two students. The accused utilized his father's licensed firearm to shoot his classmate.
Haryana Director General of Police O P Singh described the incident as "extremely unfortunate" and urged parents and educational institutions to teach children appropriate "people skills" to prevent such violent confrontations.
A senior investigating officer revealed that all three students involved—the victim and the two accused—were classmates. During interrogation, the primary accused stated that the victim was focused on his mobile phone and failed to respond to a question despite being asked three times, which "angered" the accused and prompted the shooting.
Both accused teenagers appeared before the Juvenile Justice Board before being remanded to the correction facility in Faridabad.
Medical reports indicate that while the bullet passed through the victim's neck, some fragments remained lodged, causing significant damage to his neck bone. His condition continues to be critical.
DGP Singh announced that measures would be implemented to better train firearms license holders regarding weapon safety and storage.
"I have instructed the SP and CP to alert arms license holders in their areas about such dangers," the officer stated in a social media post.
He added that authorities have been directed to arrange necessary training for weapons owners to ensure proper firearm handling.
"The generation that plays video games doesn't even know that shooting is not a game. Parents and schools should teach children 'people' skills. The situation should not come to any fights or quarrels at all," Singh emphasized.
An FIR has been registered at Sadar police station regarding the incident. According to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, her son was invited by his school friend to meet on Saturday. Initially, her son declined, but the friend was persistent and offered to pick him up.
She subsequently permitted her son to go, and he met his friend at the Kherki Daula toll plaza.
"About two months ago, my son had an altercation with his friend. Because of this, my son's friend took him to his house and, along with another friend, shot him with the intention of killing him," the mother stated in her complaint.
The accused's father, who resides in Patli village, works as a property dealer.
