The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) successfully apprehended three ISIS-affiliated terrorists in Ahmedabad on Sunday who were plotting terrorist attacks across India.
These individuals had been under surveillance by the ATS for approximately one year and were intercepted during a weapons exchange operation.
According to an official statement from the Gujarat ATS, "The terrorists had traveled to Gujarat to exchange weapons and were reportedly orchestrating attacks at various locations throughout the country. The three suspects belong to separate modules, and investigations are currently underway to identify their intended targets and attack locations."
Officials have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with more details expected to emerge soon.
This arrest follows a previous operation earlier this year when the Gujarat ATS detained five members of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). This earlier group included a female suspect from Bengaluru who was allegedly managing an online terror module with connections to handlers in Pakistan.
The suspects from the previous operation were identified as Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, and Zeeshan Ali, arrested on July 22 for allegedly promoting radical AQIS ideology across social media platforms.
During the investigation, authorities recovered an illegal semi-automatic pistol and live ammunition from Zeeshan Ali's possession. According to Gujarat ATS officials, the weapon was discovered during a follow-up search at Ali's residence in Noida, based on information obtained during interrogation.
The operation was conducted by Police Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and Police Sub-Inspector A.R. Chaudhary under Deputy Superintendent of Police Virajeetsinh Parmar's supervision.
The group faces accusations of inciting violence under the concept of "Ghazwa-e-Hind," advocating for armed rebellion against India's elected government, and encouraging violent actions targeting non-Muslims.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
As the investigation progressed, the ATS also arrested Shama Parveen on July 27, who has been identified as a key operative in the terror module from Bengaluru.
