Delhi Records Season's Coldest Night at 11°C: Winter Chill Intensifies with Temperature Drop Below Normal

Delhi experienced its coldest night of the season as temperatures dropped to 11°C, 3.3 degrees below normal. New Delhi:

Winter's arrival was distinctly felt in the national capital as a sharp chill permeated the air on Saturday.

The minimum temperature dropped to 11 degrees Celsius, marking the season's coldest night thus far. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this night-time temperature reading was 3.3 degrees below the seasonal normal.

For the first time this winter season, Delhi's minimum temperature fell below the 15 degrees Celsius threshold on Thursday.

IMD data shows that the lowest recorded temperature was 9.5 degrees Celsius in 2024, compared to 9.2 degrees Celsius in 2023 and 7.3 degrees Celsius in 2022.

Saturday's maximum temperature in the city reached 27.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.3 degrees below normal, as reported by the IMD.

Officials explained that the chilly conditions resulted from cold winds blowing into Delhi following recent snowfall in the western Himalayas, combined with clear night skies that enhanced radiational cooling.

The meteorological department predicts shallow fog for Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be approximately 28 and 11 degrees Celsius respectively.
