Two Bangladeshi women residing illegally in India were arrested by police on Friday from the Patel Nagar area of Dehradun during a security operation conducted ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit.

The women were apprehended from Sanskriti Lok Colony during a thorough search operation being carried out in preparation for the main event on November 9 celebrating Uttarakhand's 25 years of statehood. Prime Minister Modi will be attending the ceremony as the chief guest.

During questioning, both individuals admitted to illegally entering India. They have been identified as Swati Upadhyay alias Mariam from Bangladesh's Barguna district, and Shivli Akhtar alias Jolly alias Sana, who is from Comilla district.

According to police, the women disclosed that they had crossed the border into India illegally at different times and, after living in various locations, eventually met each other in Delhi before traveling together to Dehradun.

Investigations revealed that both women had married Indian citizens to facilitate their stay in the country. Police recovered Bangladeshi identification cards from their phones, based on which they will be deported to Bangladesh in accordance with legal procedures.
