Nirmala Sitharaman Unveils 2 Major Guwahati Landmarks Worth Rs 327 Crore

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today inaugurated two transformative projects along the Brahmaputra riverbank in Guwahati, with a combined value exceeding ₹327 crore.

These ambitious urban beautification initiatives - the Guwahati Gateway River Terminal and the Brahmaputra Riverfront - represent Assam's most significant development projects under the Smart City Mission, positioning Guwahati to join the ranks of iconic urban landmarks like Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Riverfront and Mumbai's Gateway of India.

The newly constructed Brahmaputra Riverfront spans 1.2 kilometers and features seven elaborately designed gateway structures that showcase Assam's cultural heritage. Visitors can enjoy musical installations, open recreational areas, and spacious walking plazas throughout the development.

The project incorporates an extensive landscaped riverside park, dedicated parking facilities, public utility areas, viewing platforms, and designated spaces for cultural exhibitions and community gatherings. Every design element thoughtfully represents Assam's unique identity, incorporating indigenous musical instruments, traditional motifs, and historical references.

The Gateway Inland Water Terminal will function as the central boarding location for evening river cruises, tourist excursions under the Sagarmala Tourism Circuit, and future water routes connecting Raj Bhavan and other historical landmarks along the Brahmaputra River.
