Bhavika Gupta's (left) death occurred in the tragic accident. Brijesh Nishad (right) was identified as one of the accused.
A fatal accident at Kanpur's Ganga barrage claimed one woman's life and left another severely injured when motorcyclists racing at high speeds collided with their scooter.
On Thursday evening, Bhavika Gupta, a 23-year-old third-year college student, visited the Ganga barrage with her friend Neha Mishra. As they were returning and Gupta turned her scooter at a T-intersection, four men on two motorcycles approached at speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour.
The resulting head-on collision severely damaged the scooter and dragged Gupta approximately 50 meters. The perpetrators immediately fled the scene. Bystanders rushed to help the women, taking them to the hospital. Tragically, Gupta died during transport, while Mishra continues to receive medical treatment.
While escaping, one of the accused left behind his motorcycle, which displayed an Instagram handle: brijesh_nishad_r155m. Upon checking this profile, comments on a post read, "There was an accident at Ganga barrage, are you alive or dead...You killed the girls." Another user replied confirming that Nishad had struck the women with his motorcycle. The profile also contained numerous videos of motorcycle rides and racing activities.
Following a police complaint filed by Gupta's father, authorities launched a search operation for the accused individuals.
