Delhi Man Arrested 15 Years After He Killed Wife, Made It Look Like Suicide

The Delhi Police have successfully resolved a 15-year-old murder case with the arrest of Narottam Prasad from Gujarat. Prasad had killed his wife in 2010 and attempted to disguise the crime as a suicide by leaving a fabricated note at the scene.

New Delhi authorities apprehended the suspect and brought him back to the capital to face legal proceedings for the long-unsolved homicide.

The case began on May 31, 2010, when authorities responded to reports of a foul odor emanating from a residence in Delhi's Jahangirpuri district. Upon gaining entry, police discovered the decomposed remains of a 25-year-old woman on the floor alongside what appeared to be a suicide note.

As investigators delved into the circumstances surrounding the death, suspicion quickly fell on Prasad, the victim's husband, who had disappeared. Police subsequently declared him a proclaimed offender and offered a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his capture.

The breakthrough in the case came in 2025 when Delhi Police received intelligence regarding Prasad's whereabouts. A specialized team was dispatched to Vadodra, Gujarat on Tuesday to pursue this lead.

Through a combination of technical surveillance and community intelligence gathering, officers successfully located and arrested Prasad the following day in the Chhota Udaipur area of Vadodra.

Authorities identified Prasad as originally hailing from Sikar in Rajasthan. During his years as a fugitive, he had established himself as a manager at a cotton manufacturing facility in Chhota Udaipur.

Under interrogation, Prasad admitted that his marriage had quickly deteriorated into frequent arguments. In one particularly intense conflict, he killed his wife and crafted a fraudulent suicide note in an attempt to misdirect investigators.
