Suspected Woman Kidnapping in Coimbatore Prompts Extensive Police Investigation After CCTV Captures Screams

CCTV footage shows a white car briefly parked along a stretch before driving away shortly after a woman's screams were heard.

A suspected late-night kidnapping of a woman in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu has prompted an extensive police investigation, though authorities state there is no confirmation that an abduction actually occurred. According to police sources who spoke with NDTV, a pedestrian notified authorities after reportedly hearing a woman screaming from inside a moving vehicle on Thursday night.

The CCTV footage—which NDTV cannot independently verify—captures a white car temporarily stopped along what seems to be a residential area before driving away moments after a woman's screams are heard. Another woman can be seen waiting across the street.

Shortly afterward, someone nearby is heard asking, "What happened?" which prompted the bystander (the woman standing across the road) to contact police.

Police officers conducted searches throughout the night to locate the vehicle. "A CCTV camera partially captured the car near a bakery in the Sulur area, but there is no sign of the woman," Coimbatore Commissioner of Police A Saravana Sundar told NDTV on Friday.

"No license plate is visible thus far, but we have expanded our search efforts this morning as well," Sundar added.

He further noted that police had not received any missing person reports or emergency calls related to the incident. "We are taking extra precautions to ensure no one is in danger," Sundar said.

This incident occurs just days after a female college student, who was talking with her male friend in a car, was kidnapped and sexually assaulted behind the Coimbatore International Airport. That incident sparked public outrage and resulted in the arrest of three suspects.
