Veteran Bollywood Actor-Singer Sulakshana Pandit Passes Away at 71: A Legacy in Indian Cinema

Sulakshana Pandit made her acting debut in 1975 with the film "Uljhan" alongside Sanjeev Kumar.

Veteran actor and playback singer Sulakshana Pandit, renowned for her performances in films such as "Uljhan" and "Chehre Pe Chehra," passed away on Thursday due to cardiac arrest at the age of 71, as confirmed by her brother Lalit Pandit.
Sulakshana was en route to Nanavati hospital when she passed away. "She suffered a cardiac arrest around 7 pm. She had been experiencing breathlessness and was feeling unwell. We were transporting her to Nanavati hospital, but unfortunately she died before we could arrive," Lalit Pandit informed PTI.
Following her 1975 debut in "Uljhan" opposite Sanjeev Kumar, Sulakshana went on to collaborate with many leading stars of her generation, including Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Vinod Khanna.
Her significant filmography includes "Sankoch," "Hera Pheri," "Khandaan," and "Dharam Khanta."
In addition to her acting career, Sulakshana achieved considerable success as a playback singer, performing hit songs like "Tu hi saagar tu hi kinara," "Pardesiya tere desh mein," "Bekrar dil tut gaya," "Baandhi re kahe preet," and "Somvaar ko hum mile."
Born into a musical family from Hissar, Haryana, she was the niece of the renowned Pandit Jasraj.
Sulakshana began her singing journey at nine years old and launched her musical career alongside her brother Mandheer. Her siblings include Jatin Pandit, Lalit Pandit, and former actress Vijayata Pandit.
